Cartridge, DE, and sand filters serviced or rebuilt — with tank clamps and pressure gauges checked for the salt-air corrosion that shows up faster here than most places we service.
Rising pressure and cloudy return water bring us out most often, but on Newport Beach equipment pads the tank clamps and gauge fittings frequently corrode before the filter media itself is actually spent — a fitting that's seized or a clamp that's rusted through can mimic a full filter failure. We check both before recommending a rebuild.
What actually fails
Pleats, end caps & tank clamps
Beyond ordinary pleat wear, the band clamp holding the tank together is a common corrosion point on coastal pads — a seized or rusted clamp gets addressed alongside any media replacement.
Grids, manifolds & gauge fittings
Torn grids and cracked manifolds fail the same way here as anywhere, but pressure gauge fittings corrode faster on harbor-adjacent equipment and can give a false pressure reading if overlooked.
Laterals & multiport valves
Multiport valve handles and internals see more corrosion-related sticking here than inland — distinct from ordinary channeling through old sand media.
Smaller media, faster cycle
Spa filters run a much smaller volume through a faster turnover, so both debris and salt-air residue accumulate faster — they need shorter service intervals than the main pool filter.
Salt air & filter hardware
On Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Balboa Peninsula, and Corona del Mar equipment pads, we inspect tank clamps, gauge fittings, and multiport valve hardware for salt-air corrosion as a routine part of every filter service call — not just when a customer reports a leak. Catching a corroding clamp early is a small fix; catching it late means a cracked tank.
Common questions
Proximity to the harbor and open coast is the main factor — salt-laden air attacks unprotected metal fittings and clamps well before the filter media itself is actually worn out.
Yes. Spa filters run a different volume and cycle than the main pool filter and need their own service interval.
Where a coastal-rated equivalent exists, yes — we default to it on repairs here rather than matching the original hardware.
